Hello and welcome to Cushion Fort!

I'm Lucianne, a graphic designer and first time buyer working in London and living in Surrey. From being tiny I loved building blanket and cushion forts and wholeheartedly acted out adventures from my base camp. I have gone from playing 'house' to paying for a first home with my partner-in-crime Stephen.

When trying to research what to expect when buying a first home, I noticed that there was very little unbiased or helpful information available from anyone relatable instead of the corporate jargon on estate agents' website. I decided there must be others like me and set up Cushion Fort as a way to document the process without any scary bits missed out

Alongside the nitty gritty of mortgages, solicitors and how to deal with estate agents expect honest renovation advice, inspirational interiors and DIY's. I want to document our journey from how we started out looking for a home to what we are hoping to do with it, including how I plan on saving up to complete the renovations.

I hope to hear from any readers so we can exchange ideas, share mood boards and generally get good advice on creating a first home. Particularly my experienced readers who have 'been there and made that mistake'...your advice is priceless so please share!
